Volunteer & Education Affiliate Chicago - Alliance for the Great Lakes Donate Campaigns Get Involved News About Search this site: Home Volunteer & Education Affiliate Chicago Job Posting Volunteer & Education Affiliate - Chicago April 12, 2017 Volunteer & Education Affiliate  – Chicago Office * This is a paid position.* The Volunteer & Education Affiliate will support the work of the Alliance's education and volunteer efforts, including the Adopt-a-Beach™ Program, on-the-ground volunteer/education opportunities, and local projects in and around Chicago. The Volunteer & Education Affiliate will work closely with the Education Manager on communications, event planning, research, data management and evaluation of our programs, as well as support and research for other Alliance programs. This is a part-time (25-35 hours), temporary, paid position for May – September 2017. Applicants for this position must be college students or college graduates. This position is based in Chicago, IL. Specific tasks will be: Assist in the coordination of Great Lakes place-based education and volunteer opportunities in Chicago and other Great Lakes communities by: recruiting new volunteers; mailing Adopt-a-Beach™ supplies; planning and assisting at trainings and community events; and coordinating volunteers for tabling events. Organize and accurately input data, including constituent information, for Adopt-a-Beach™, advocacy, education and special events. The Alliance will provide training. Conduct online research to support Alliance programming, with a focus on volunteer and community engagement. Assist with evaluation of our Great Lakes education and volunteer programs and our impact on educators, students and community members. Help with administrative/office tasks as needed. Eligibility and qualifications Affiliates will require a variety of skill sets, but general qualification must include: Bachelor's degree, or enrolled, in a program focused on community development, natural resources and/or education preferred Experience in community organization, specifically planning and leading events, recruitment and coordination of volunteers, and public engagement in social or environmental issues Good written and verbal communication skills Creative thinker with the ability to proactively translate ideas into on-the-ground actions Experience with Microsoft Office 2010 Suite Ability to work outdoors under variable weather conditions Attraction to mission-driven public interest work and volunteer engagement Availability for Summer 2017 in Chicago, IL Application instructions Individuals interested in the affiliate position should send applications by April 21, 2017, including: Resume Cover letter Two reference contacts (work supervisors or professors) Candidates will be contacted directly if they are selected for an interview.
